When a Relationship Seems Abusive

When a Relationship Seems Abusive

Whether physical or emotional, constant or sporadic, abuse hurts. An abusive situation can be easy to get into, especially for teens just entering the world of romantic relationships. However, inexperienced teens may have trouble recognizing just what “abusive” is. This CareNote defines it plainly: “a relationship is abusive when one person acts in a way that disrespects, frightens, manipulates, or tries to control the other person.” This guide goes on to explain how teens who feel they are in such a situation can: discern red flags and recognize when the abuse is occurring, find help from a trusted adult, and ultimately, realize their personal value and eventually find a positive relationship of which they’re deserving.
