Losing Someone You Love to Addiction
Watching a loved one battle addiction is a trying, tiring ordeal, one marked by a series of losses. When the addict succumbs to the battle, those left behind are dealt the ultimate loss and may find themselves unable to sort through the many feelings – sadness, anger, guilt, confusion – that result. Because there are more than 100 drug overdose deaths every day in the U.S., survivors have many options for support available to them, and author Cynthia Geisen urges readers to seek help where they can as they journey toward healing, understanding, and even growth. She writes, “Not for one minute do I believe that God causes suffering to catalyze our growth. Yet thanks to God’s mysterious alchemy of grace it is possible for us to grow even through experiences of finality and death.”
