Many oversimplify the Lenten season as a time of sacrifice, of “giving up” something. However, author Silas Henderson wants readers to recognize the opportunity the season provides, to view the “good works” of prayer, almsgiving, and fasting as ways to focus attention on what is most important in life. “Use the 40 days of Lent as a time to get back to the basics of who you are as a follower of Jesus,” writes Henderson. “Lent is a gift given to us every year as a time to look deep within our hearts and souls to ask ourselves who we are and Whose we are.”
